Publisher's
Notes Summer 2002
Ready to have some fun? Hope so, as "Telluride, the land where
people come to play," has never been more geared up to bring
you an outstanding array of outdoor, indoor and festive events.
On your own or with bunches of other pleasure
seekers, Telluride's activity list has something for every age,
athletic ability and just about every mood.
Whether you're traveling on the cheap or with wads to inject into
our small Victorian village, Telluride's summertime menu starts
off with a bang with the MountainFilm Festival that celebrates lifestyles
and adventures in the highlands. Tunes fill the crystal-clear airways
with Bluegrass, Jazz, Brews 'n' Blues, Chamber Music Festivals and
Sunset Concerts, while the skies become joyfully decorated with
brightly colored flying vessels like gigantic balloons during the
Balloon Rally. Stimulate your brainwaves or beckon the "inner
writer" within you with gatherings like Writers in the Sky,
Walking Words, Writer's Conference or the Playwriting Festival.
And, the Tech and Ideas Festivals and Steps to Enlightenment are
certainly lovely ways to engage and interact with thought-provoking
people pushing the intellectual limits that could ultimately take
us into undiscovered frontiers.
Your physical side can be challenged here as well through athletic
events such as the Hard Rock 100, Tai Chi Seminars, Mountain FEAT
Fun Run, Imogene Pass Run, mountain bike races and, for the first
time, the Telluride 360o Adventure, which is sponsored in part by
the Telluride Foundation. Some of the "gnarliest," most
hardcore athletes from around the world will congregate in Telluride
for this ten-day event.
If you prefer to be entertained by entertainers, may we suggest
Telluride's Wild West Fest, Film Festival or Cinema Exposition.
Creativity, imagination and the arts are certainly celebrated in
Telluride throughout the warm weather season. You'll find out-of-the-box
people, shops, events and restaurants are woven intricately into
the fabric that blankets Telluride. In the following pages of TellurideStyle,
you'll find an abundance of outdoor activities featured. Insights
into the fishing, hiking, four-wheeling, rafting, climbing, mountain
biking and horseback riding are provided by experts in each endeavor.
In essence, throughout this issue of TellurideStyle, you'll find
the theme of "well being," flows from one page to another.
Fran Krumlauf, exercise physiologist and fitness consultant, astutely
outlines five points of well being. By and large, these points embody
the spirit of residents' lifestyles as well as provide everyone
with knowledge and insights into keeping our minds, bodies and spirits
vigorous and healthy.
Finally, in TellurideStyle, you'll find our most treasured and
talked about topics are those profiling the locals. We hope you
find, as we do, they are the ones who put the style into Telluride's
flavorful personality. Now enjoy and be well. |
