Publisher's Notes Summer 2003
In Living Color
If you were a color, what color would you be? I figure I would
be turquoise as it is not only the color of my eyes, but also the
color of much of the earth. Perhaps, choosing this blue-based tint
is safe as most everyone can relate to it as well as think kindly
of it. Crystal blue skies, alpine lakes, mountain bluebirds and
delicate alpine forgetme- not flowers with yellow eyes are some
of nature's blue-toned offerings. The fact of the matter is that
the vibrant painting of the landscape, particularly while in Telluride,
Colorado, enlivens all of us. Telluride is truly a place adorned
with an infinite rainbow of colors that spread their tones and accentuate
the dramatic mountain terrain.
In a fleeting moment, views transform and colors change to lighter
or darker shades depending on the sun or moon's intensity. Ecopsychologists-
those who study the interrelationships of nature and psychology-have
determined that viewing and being part of the natural world is good
for our physical and mental well beings. In fact, being amid a landscape
with a multitude of colors appears to elevate moods and boosts our
immune systems. Hence, please take time to not only be in the arms
of Mother Nature while visiting our quaint Victorian town, but also
immerse yourself in TellurideStyle's colorful pictorial opening,
The Colors of Our World, written by our famed and poetic outdoor
writer, Edgar Martin Wilcox, III-AKA Edgar the Wise Guy.
The power of babel is terrific. Therefore, we at Bush & Associates
carefully scrutinize who and what we feature in our publications.
Proudly, this issue surges with dynamic personalities that paint
our town with strokes of genius, inventiveness, citizenship and
excitement. Most everyone featured in TellurideStyle is an entrepreneur,
traveler, volunteer and nature-lover.
More than anything, however, the people with (and in) T-Style seemingly
love the fresh appeal of small-town living and the challenges that
go with it. Peter and Karen Walker, Michael and Jackie Gardner,
the men and women of Telluride's Volunteer Fire Department, members
of the Women's Network, Dan James, Rosie Cusack, Roxanne Pulitzer
and Tim Boberg, Patricia Aburdene, Bill and Twyla Mahoney, Pam and
John Zoline...the list goes on. Some people profiled are nationally
known and all are highly regarded locally. These people add to the
charismatic charms of Telluride and make it a stylin' resort community.
In essence, they are the trendsetters or tone-setters of our mountain
oasis. They have gone out-on-a-limb to make Telluride an exhilarating
retreat. Because outdoor activities and festivals are abound here,
you will find comprehensive listings of hiking, biking and jeeping
trails with the town's most detailed recreational map.
You'll also find a festival guide providing snippets of each event.
Take a camera wherever you go, so
you may capture the episodic bursts of natural and cultural colors
that will make you feel good, healthy and happy. Now, enjoy the
splendid and multi-dimensional color schemes of Telluride and Mountain
Village.
