HAL
the savoir-faire of hair

For all intents and purposes, Hal Rice is a man about style. His life revolves around creating a sharper image for every one of his clients. Since he was a youngster growing up in Alton , Illinois , Hal knew he would work in the "hair and now" business. Transforming people's looks by working with their unique features, styles and hair textures, Hal has made his mark in the salon industry as a hair and make-up specialist. Such is his prowess, his Telluride salon, aptly named Hal, is the only salon/spa in the world given the rights to sell Bobbi Brown cosmetics. For those not involved in the make-up scene, Bobbi Brown is revered for her make-up line as it "enhances women's natural beauty by highlighting their individual, unique features." Her products flawlessly draw out the natural tones and colors of each individual, leaving a "creamy and dewy glow." Bobbi says, "Family trips to our home in Telluride always include a visit to Hal's salon. He is the only person I trust enough, when I am out of New York to touch my hair. He's fun to be around and he is great at what he does. When Hal styles hair, he's about natural looking hair, that's you, only prettier."

Hal's talents are in such high demand, he cannot take on more Telluride clients, that allows him to fly to Houston , Texas , every six weeks to trim, shape, color and share time with 68 women clients who grew to entrust the path his comb and scissors took while he owned and operated his salon Axis. Obviously, he loves to befriend his clients and readily admits that his life is centered around them and their needs. In the business for nearly three decades, Hal has witnessed the tress movement morph from the big hair to shaggy/ punkie/permie days. Today's look is very much the look of Telluride's women, which is largely natural. At $110 plus a cut, Hal's magic brings out the best in those seeking to look their best. "It's all about the cut," Hal says. The very essence of the hair styling business demands that Hal keeps up with the latest techniques and trends. As a highly successful business owner, he obviously possesses an ample degree of business savoir-faire. In view of that, Hal sends his staff to London to work under Vidal Sassoon during off-seasons, he asks them for their feedback and input on management techniques, scheduling and such. Seemingly by keeping his staff involved, inspired and updated, he has created a positive and even soothing atmosphere, which is ideal and in-line for all the pampering services offered at Hal - body treatments, nail care, reflexology, waxing, skin care, coloring services, make-up application and lessons, cutting and more.
